With sadness we announce the passing of Jane Allison Holod (Garland) on February 20th , 2025, at Lions Prairie Manor, Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, at the age of 86 years.
Left to treasure her memory is her husband of 65 years, Melvin Holod, and her sister Sally Balabuch (Reg); daughter Catherine (Randy) Dengate, grandchildren: Jeffrey (Stacey) Spriggs, and great-grandchildren Clark and Noelle; Beverley (Steve) Gushulak and great-grandchildren Andy and Theo; Christopher (Erin) Spriggs and great- grandchildren Zoey and Nicholas; Allison (Brydyn) Mac Intyre; son James (Carol) Holod and grandchildren: Janelle (Bryan) Holod; Adam (Morgan) Holod; brothers-in-law Bernard and Randy Holod; sisters-in-law: Brenda (Chuck) Campbell, Glenda Holod, and many nieces, nephews, and loved ones.
Predeceased by her parents James and Allison Garland; siblings Patrick (Linda) Garland and Mary Ann (Gerry) Owens; parents-in-law George and Catherine Holod; and in-laws Kas Holod, Carol (Jim) Bell, and Reg (Bonnie) Holod. Jane was born in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, on February 17 th , 1939, and spent most of childhood in Portage, with the exception of a few years before starting school in Nassau, the Bahamas, when her father was stationed there with the RCAF. She graduated from Portage Collegiate Institute and pursued laboratory training in Winnipeg.
Before she began work at Portage District General Hospital Lab and Imaging Department, she married her husband Melvin Holod on June 18 th , 1959. Together they raised two children, Cathy and Jimmy. Jane was a fun-loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Over the years she enjoyed many trips to Hawaii with her mother and other family members. Jane was an avid reader, fitness enthusiast, NASCAR mega-fan (go Tony!), and enjoyed spending time with friends and family and countless hours in the garden. In retirement, Jane and Mel enjoyed camping and fishing with friends and family, attending family reunions, and spending time with grandchildren in Portage la Prairie and Edmonton.
A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
The family would like to thank the staff of Lions Prairie Manor for their kind and compassionate care of Jane.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lions Prairie Manor Foundation or to the charity of one’s choice.
