James Morrison Obituary
With great sadness but gratitude for a life well lived we announce the passing of James Wilbert “Jim” Morrison, on January 4, 2025 after a brief illness at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Jim was born on September 3, 1941 at Kildare PEI to Wilfred & Evelyn (Cahill) Morrison. At age 2 the family moved to East Saint John, where he attended East Saint John School and Simonds Regional High School.
After a brief stint working at the refinery, Jim joined the Saint John Fire Department, spending the majority of his career at Station #4 on Courtney Ave. He then moved to Central Station as Administrative officer and then to Deputy Chief, before retiring in 1994 after 33 years of service. He spoke often about his love for his career with his brothers on the department and the many years organizing the annual firefighter’s golf tournaments.
He is survived by his sons Dr. Jeff Morrison (Dr. Diane Liscumb) of Quispamsis and Andrew Morrison (Celeste Coles) of PEI, sister Betty (Tom) McGrattan, brother-in-laws Raymond McCaskill(Cathie), John Weibe, sister-in-laws, Claudette McCaskill, Millie Mitchell, Kathy Vautour, several nieces and nephews and the joys of his life grandchildren Ian, Maggie, Owen, Nathaniel, Isaac and great- granddaughter Olive. Besides his parents he was pre-deceased by the love of his life Barbara (McCaskill) Morrison, sisters Mary and Midge, and brothers John and Bill, nephew Billy Morrison and niece Maureen McTague.
Jim spent most of his life in East Saint John until moving to Quispamsis 20 years ago. He was an avid golfer in earlier years and a huge hockey fan devoted to the Toronto Maple Leafs for his whole life. His favorite thing though was during retirement years spending summers with Barb at their cottage in Stanhope PEI. They enjoyed many happy years entertaining their grandkids and relatives around the cottage, where he loved cooking up big feasts. Mom was the prime cook in those years, but “Grampie’s breakfasts” were second to none. He was a lifelong member of Stella Maris church and Knights of Columbus Council 6595.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, NB (506-646-2424). A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday January 17 at 11:00am at Stella Maris Church. Following the mass a reception will be held in the church hall, and a private internment will take place at St Joseph’s Cemetery where he will be reunited with Barb, whom he missed so much. In keeping with his wishes, there will be no visitation. In Lieu of flowers, donations to Bobby’s hospice, a charity close to his heart, or charity of the donor’s choice will be appreciated.
