Jim passed away on Friday, February 28, 2025, at his residence in Toronto.
He was born in Sydney on January 21, 1930, and was the oldest child of the late Carl and Bea (MacNeil) Townsend of Fairview Street in Sydney.
Jim spent most of his life in Ontario.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Christine (MacLeod); brothers, Bill and Richard; sister-in-law, Jean; brother-in-law, Joe Lindsay; and nephews, Stephen Townsend and Richard Lindsay.
Jim is survived by his sisters, Shirley McLean, Sydney and Louise Lindsay, Kelowna; nephew, Brian Morrison; and niece, Julia (Joe) Gordon.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel. A graveside service will be held in Hardwood Hill Cemetery at a later date.
