MURPHY, James Michael
October 1st, 1965 – February 1st, 2025
It is with deepest sadness that we announce the passing of James Murphy after a most courageous battle with cancer at the age of 59.
James will be deeply missed by his beloved wife Anne-Marie Murphy (nee McGinnis) of 29 years, cherished father of John Michael, Emma (Drew Spinney) of Nova Scotia. Predeceased by his parents Mike and Anne (nee Hinch) and infant son Seamus. James is survived by his sisters Anne Marie of Rocky Mountain House, Alberta; Michele Kennelly (Paul) of Marysville; Magaret (Simon) Bailey of Hastings, England; Colleen Murphy (Dave Hoffman) of Belleville; Shawna Murphy of Cambridge.
James was a life long resident of Tyendinaga Township, surrounded by a very supportive family and community. Early in life he learned the value of a hard day’s work and honed his problem-solving talents on the family farm. His passion for helping others lead to 20 years volunteering with the Tyendinaga Township Fire Department where life long friendships were made. In his younger days, James also enjoyed coaching hockey in Deseronto. His love of dancing and Murphy charm caught the eye and hand of a young lady at a friend’s wedding. He, unknowingly, took to the floor with the love of his life. They were married a few years later and began their family.
Alpine skiing in Quebec and family camping trips were among his vacation highlights. Spending time teaching and teasing his well-loved nieces and nephews became a favourite past time. James loved to share his extensive knowledge from tips on how to properly play Euchre to diagnosing car problems for a kindly ICU nurse.
Winter pastimes morphed from toe tapping to tree tapping while satisfying his sweet tooth. Nothing like a bowl full of hot, fresh maple syrup with a piece of buttered bread for dipping. His passion for agriculture lead him to work at local farm centres and ultimately County Farm Centre where he worked for many years relishing the simple satisfaction of a job well done.
James’ family would like to thank the many family and friends involved in his cancer journey. Dr. Climans, Stephanie, Dr. Ash, Connor, Naur, the many outstanding doctors and oncology nurses at Kingston General Hospital and Ottawa General Hospital for their sense of humour, tireless and outstanding compassion and respect.
Visitation will take place at Wartman Funeral Home 448 Camden Road, Napanee on Thursday, February 6th from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral will take place at Holy Name of Mary Parish 7288 Old Highway 2, Marysville on Friday, February 7th at 1 p.m.
