James (Jim) Stewart Colwell
February 10, 1938 – March 24, 2025
Jim was born and raised in Beeton, and always proudly thought of that town as home. He and his twin brother Jack were the youngest children of Bill and Mary (Topper) Colwell. Jim was predeceased by his parents and his siblings, Ruth, Richard (Dick) and Jack. He still enjoyed regular phone calls with his sisters, Joan and Lorna.
Jim was deeply loved by all his children, Rob (Renee) Colwell and Anne (Mark) Barkley, Karen (Jeff) Kerker, Kelly Platt, and Dwayne (Mae) Pankhurst. He was an adored Poppa to Kathryn (Eric), Emily (Tom), Lauren, Sam, Allison, Hannah, Joshua, Alex and Quentin, and Great Poppa to Mira. He was Uncle Jim to many nieces and nephews.
Jim was a humble man; never taking credit for his many skills and abilities. There wasn’t a small engine that couldn’t be repaired or an auction sale treasure that couldn’t be restored. He was also artistic and amongst many projects over the years, he once fashioned wooden models of historic buildings from his beloved Beeton. He was quiet, and yet loved company, story-telling and a good conversation. Always curious and interested in many things, his impeccable memory and sense of humour made him a joy to all who knew him.
Jim was an avid Maple Leafs’ fan, and still remembering the glory days of the sixties, he never gave up hope that they would one day, carry the cup home again.
Anyone who spent time with Jim, would know of his cherished farm. He loved to spend time there, both on his own and with his family. There are so many wonderful memories of being there with him. It was his little slice of Heaven, here on earth, and whether he was building his pond, cutting trees, mowing lawn, constructing structures, planting trees or flowers, or sitting around the campfire, we believe that he was happiest when he was there. That place, because of Jim’s love for it, will always hold a special place in our hearts.
For many years, Jim joined a group of friends for coffee each morning. As this group of people worked to solve the world’s problems and catch up on community happenings, it served as a touch point of connection for Jim, especially in the last few years. The family thanks you for your friendship.
The family would also like to thank the amazing staff at Matthews House Hospice in Alliston for their compassion and loving care in Dad’s final days. We would like to thank Erynn especially, who came to us like an angel, when we needed you most.
A final farewell service will be held at the Drury Funeral Centre at 519 Victoria Street E, in Alliston on Monday, March 31 from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. with time of Service at 2 p.m. Private internment to follow at a later date. Cremation has taken place.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Matthews House Hospice would be appreciated, so that other families can benefit from their care. Condolences and memories can be left for the family at www.druryfuneralcentre.com
