James Owen Scott
(June 2, 1940 – December 28, 2024)
James (Jim) Owen Scott, a beloved father, husband, brother, uncle, grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2024 at Headwaters Health Care Centre in Orangeville, Ontario. He was 84 years old. Born on June 2, 1940 in Seaforth, Ontario, Jim was the cherished son of Ivy and James T. Scott.
Jim was the proud father of four children—Michael (Rose), James (Wendy), Deborah and Jeffrey (Vanessa)—from his first marriage. He loved each of them deeply and took great pride in their lives and accomplishments. In 2003, Jim was given a new lease on life when his daughter, Deborah, selflessly donated a kidney, a gift that allowed him two decades of cherished moments with his family and friends.
Later in life, Jim found love and companionship with his devoted wife, Cheryl Scott, with whom he shared many wonderful years. He also formed a very special bond with his step-daughters, Candice (Carey) and Crystal.
Jim was a loving grandfather to his grandchildren, Dylan, Lindsay, Gryphon, Hailey, Corson, Owen, Samantha, Christopher, Jeffrey, Nicole, Alex, Nicholas, Rachael and Crystal. Each of them brought him immense joy, and he relished every moment spent with them, celebrating their accomplishments and sharing in their lives.
Jim is survived by his older brother, Douglas, with whom he shared countless fond memories. He was predeceased by his parents, Ivy and James, and his brothers Gordon, Arnold, and Robert. His extended family, including many beloved nieces and nephews, also mourn his passing.
Jim was a man of great character and warmth. Known for his gentle spirit, dry wit and unwavering kindness, he made a lasting impression on everyone he met. He lived a life of gratitude, resilience, and love, always putting family at the center of his world.
Jim’s legacy is one of strength, compassion, and a quiet but steadfast commitment to those he loved. His memory will continue to inspire all who knew him.
A celebration of Jim’s life will be held in the spring on or about June 2nd. Family and friends are invited to gather to honour and reflect on the incredible life he lived.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to The Kidney Foundation of Canada, a cause close to Jim’s heart and reflective of his generous spirit.
Jim’s kindness, humor, and love will be deeply missed, but the memories he created will live on forever. May he rest in peace.
