James “Jim” Farrell Obituary
With great love and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of James “Jim” Farrell on February 25, 2025, at Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay, Ontario, at the age of 83. Jim was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He was known for his kind heart, sharp wit, and unwavering loyalty—to both his family and the Toronto Maple Leafs (despite decades of heartbreak).
Jim was predeceased by his parents, Rose and Bill Farrell, and his brother, Gary Riley. He leaves behind his loving wife of 63 years, Helen. He was the proud father of David (Huyen Tran), Dana (Chris), and Sharon (Emmett). He was an effortlessly cool grandfather to Tamaris, Cody, Jamie-Rose, Dylan, Kalli, Spencer, and Isaac. He also wore the title of great-grandfather with pride, loving Miles, Rainer, Zinnia, Blake, Breanna, Bennett, and Hudson. Jim will also be deeply missed by his sister, Roseann, her daughters, Elizabeth and Ashley-Rose, his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, as well as his furry companions, Dolly and Bugsy.
A lifelong Leafs fan, Jim never lost faith in his team, always believing that “this could be the year.” Whether he was cheering from his favourite chair, reminiscing about past victories, or sporting blue and white on game nights, his passion for hockey was undeniable. If there’s a rink in the afterlife, you can bet Jim’s already claimed the best spot and is still holding out hope for that long-awaited Stanley Cup.
Jim’s sense of humour, generosity, and knack for storytelling made him someone people naturally gravitated towards. Whether he was sharing a laugh, lending a helping hand, or offering one of his signature words of wisdom (likely involving a jackknife), he left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Jim’s life on Sunday, March 16, at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 519 in Coboconk, Ontario. Visitation will begin at 12 noon, with Words of Remembrance at 2:00 PM, followed by a reception. In true Jim fashion, wearing Maple Leafs blue and white would be a perfect tribute.
Though the final buzzer has sounded, Jim’s spirit—and his unshakable belief in the Leafs—will live on.
If desired, in-memory donations may be made to the Humane Society of Kawartha Lakes in his honour.
A heartfelt thank you to the staff at Ross Memorial Hospital—from the Emergency Department to the Medical and Palliative Care Units—for the exceptional care and compassion shown to Jim and our family. Your kindness and support meant the world to us.
