HILCHEY CWO, James William CD2 (Retired), age 91 of
Hebb’s Cross Lunenburg County, passed away January 29, 2025
at home. Born In Halifax, he was a son of the late James Murray
Hilchey and the late Florence Kathleen (Peard) Hilchey. He joined the
RCAF in 1951 as an aircraft structural Repair Technician and retired
from the military after serving 39 years. During his military career
he was posted to the following bases; St. Jeans, Que; Trenton, ON;
Aylmer, Ont; Uplands, Ont; North Bay Ont; Cold Lake Alta; 2 (F) Wing,
France; Moose Jaw, Sask; UN duties in Pakistan; Shearwater, NS;
Edmonton, Alta and NDHQ Ottawa, Ont. While at Ottawa he attended a
Trade Mission to England and Scotland representing the Canadian Armed
Forces as a member of Machining Tool Trades Association (MTTA). He was
awarded the Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal (CPSM), Centennial
Medal (CM) and Canadian Forces Decoration (CD) and Clasp 1 and 2.
After retiring from the military he worked for AMTEK Engineering
Services LTD in Ottawa for 10 years as a Senior Technologist and
technical Writer, performing the following tasks for DND; wrote
specifications for Accomodation Furniture; wrote Canadian forces
Technical Order (CFTO) for propane and Field Range Outfit; wrote
Canadian Forces technical Order (CFTO) Parts List for Coleman stoves
and Lanterns; wrote Equipment Logistics Directives (ELDs) for weapons
Systems on Halifax Class Ships; re-wrote the Canadian Forces Technical
Order (CFTO) for painting Aircraft and Aircraft Equipment; re-wrote
Canadian Forces Technical Order (CFTO) for Aircraft Cleaning and
Corrosion Control-Exterior and Interior. He was an avid golfer with
memberships in Saskatchewan, Alberta and Ontario. He worked with
junior golfers and coached minor hockey in Alberta. He enjoyed nature,
hunting, and fishing.
Surviving are his wife Lois
(Willems-Templeton) Hilchey; sons Jay, Edward, David, Robert, John and
Donald; daughters Kathleen, Susan, Theresa and Robin; many
grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first
wife Rose (Schifferns) Hilchey and his second wife Hazel
(Snider-Carter) Hilchey; son James Richard Hilchey; brother David
Gordon Hilchey.
Celebration of life will be held 2:00pm
Monday in R.A. Corkum Funeral Home, Wileville. Interment will be held
at a later date. No flowers by request. Memorial donations may be made
