James Babcock Obituary
James “Jim” Roy Babcock, a cherished soul known for his loving nature, wisdom, and remarkable handiness, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2025. Born on August 19, 1937, in Leamington, ON, Jim’s life was a testament to the enduring power of love, family, and the joy of craftsmanship. Husband to first wife, late Lorraine Drouillard and second wife, late Mary Corey. Jim was the son of the late Leita and Roy Babcock, and the brother of the late Richard Babcock, whose memory is tenderly cherished by Diane King. Jim’s legacy of love and guidance lives on through his daughters, the late Michelle Maitre, survived by her husband Tom Maitre, and Denise Hunter, lovingly supported by David DeLellis. Loving stepfather to Brett Corey, and his wife Marlene, and Jeff Corey, with his wife Suzie. Jim’s role as a grandfather was one of his most treasured, his wisdom and affection are forever remembered by Dr. Nicole Kusnik and her husband Alexander, Beau Hunter, Blair Otto and her husband Cameron, Erika Balkwill and her husband Jamie, and Carson Corey. His niece, whom he held dear as a third daughter, Christine Lecot, and her husband Mark, children Emma and Logan, as well as his niece and nephew Cheryl and Jeff, will hold dear the memory of their loving Uncle Jim.
Jim’s working years were spent at Windsor Hydro, where he not only dedicated himself to his profession but also formed lasting friendships and associations that enriched his life. An artisan at heart, Jim found joy and purpose in woodworking, creating stained glass, gardening, and crafting clocks. The sanctuary he created at his home in River Canard for 65 years, was not just for his human loved ones; Jim’s granddogs Darla, Dock, Mully, and the late Lola, were also recipients of his boundless affection and countless treats. The family was the cornerstone of Jim’s life. He was immensely proud of his family, and nothing brought him more happiness than being surrounded by his loved ones. His journey on earth may have concluded, but the stories of his kindness, his laughter, and his skilled hands will be recounted for generations. Though we say goodbye to Papa Jim, the love and wisdom he imparted will forever remain as guiding lights in our lives.
Special thanks to the staff at Met Hospital and Age Care/Royal Oak. Kingsville for their support and kindness.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Monday, January 27th from 4:00- 7:00 PM at the Portuguese Club, 217 Talbot Street West, Leamington, ON for family and friends.
