Jadwiga Ochman Obituary
Jadwiga Victoria Ochman, née Glosnek, 88, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2025. In her final months, she was continually cared for with love and tenderness by her daughters in the comfort of her own home, as was her wish. Born on September 15, 1936, in Kochcice, Poland, to Elizabeth and Stefan Glosnek.
In 1961, Jadwiga moved to Canada with her husband, John, and two young daughters, to build a new life and reunite with her parents. She modeled hard work and love as a devoted wife and as a mother to eight daughters. Jadwiga’s life was a testament to selfless giving. She embodied the spirit of resilience, unwavering dedication and a gentle, radiant joy.
Jadwiga’s love was expressed through her tireless work to nurture her family. Her hands were rarely still. Her days were filled with helping to care for loved ones, enjoying her flowers and garden or tending to animals. Among them, Cece, her cat, and Felix, her beloved toothless Shih Tzu, held a special place in her heart, finding comfort in her lap. Her kitchen was the heart of her home, a place where everyone was welcome. Long after her daughters had grown, she continued her cherished tradition of Wednesday lunches, where generations and friends gathered around her table to enjoy her freshly baked bread, hearty meals, and signature carrot cake. These gatherings were not just about food; they were a reflection of her heart of service and legacy of labour.
She is survived by her sister, Helen Tomasevic; her seven daughters: Janine Johnson (Rick), Barbara Littel, Stephanie Wallace (Tim), Irene Simons, Mary Talbot, Catherine McCormick (Rob), and Susan O’Hagan (Paul); 20 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband of 54 years, John in 2008, her daughter, Teresa in Poland, her brother, Aloisz Glosnek, and her sisters, Elizabeth Sinko and Agnes Pchalek.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the team of personal support workers and the palliative nurses for their compassionate care.
Visitations will be held at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford, on Monday, March 17, 2025, from 6-8 pm and Tuesday March 18 from 10-11 am. The funeral service will be celebrated at the funeral home at 11 am on the 18th, followed by a luncheon, then interment at Avondale Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Rotary Hospice Stratford Perth, Ronald MacDonald House or a charity of your choice.
