Jack Murdoch, in his 65th year, passed away on March 19, 2025, in Hanover, Ontario. Born on June 16, 1960, in Owen Sound, Ontario, Jack lived a life filled with dedication to his family, career, and community.
Jack explored various occupations in his younger years before finding his niche in the furniture industry. His expertise led him to a successful career as a technical sales representative with Chemcraft Chemical Coatings. His passion for furniture and kitchen cabinets was evident in his work, where he built strong relationships with numerous companies and earned widespread respect for his high standards and professionalism.
Jack is survived by his loving wife, Lorri (Dodd); son Jeremy of Hanover; daughter Marissa (Joe Bak) of West Grey; and grandsons Cash and Joel. He also leaves behind his mother Audrey of Hanover; sisters Terri (Mike Weber) of Clifford, Kim (John Greenwood) of Kanata, and Carolyn Wilkans of Kitchener. His extended family includes in-laws Sandra Dodd, Lyle Dodd (Deb), Susan (Gerry Meyer), Gale Wight, Nancy (Bruce Holliday), as well as many nieces, nephews, and other cherished relatives. He was predeceased by his infant daughter Amanda; father Gordon; brother Michael; brother-in-law Peter Wight; birth mother Shirley (Minard) and Harold Robinson; sister Brenda James; and in-laws Merlin and Shirley Dodd.
A devoted sports enthusiast, Jack was a steadfast fan of the Toronto Blue Jays and the Toronto Maple Leafs—loyally supporting them despite the good-natured teasing that came with being a Leafs fan. He also had a deep love for playing sports himself. His enthusiasm extended to coaching minor hockey for his son Jeremy’s team, where he created lasting memories with players and their families. Years later, many still recognized “Coach Jack” by his unmistakable booming voice that carried through any arena—never needing a microphone when speaking at events. Jack took great joy in following the sporting events of his grandsons Cash and Joel. Whenever possible, he attended their games and activities with pride. His love for sports was matched only by his love for people. A man with a big heart to match his stature, Jack was fortunate to have many close friends and always welcomed new ones into his life.
Beyond sports and friendships, Jack was actively involved with the Royal Canadian Legion, Durham Branch for many years. His dedication led him to serve as President of the branch—a role he embraced wholeheartedly as he worked to support veterans and the community.
Jack’s presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of kindness, camaraderie, and unwavering passion for life will live on in the hearts of those he touched. May his memory bring comfort to those who mourn his passing. A Celebration of Jack’s Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to a Local Minor Sports Association of your choice would be greatly appreciated by the family. Online condolences may be made at greybrucecremation.com.
