Ivan Saunders Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ivan on February 4, 2025 at the Valentine Centre in Campbell’s Bay, Quebec at the age of 88 years. Beloved husband of the late Arlene for 62 wonderful years. Loving and amazing father to Karen, Glenna (Nick Lombardo) and Scott (Lise Simard) and grandfather and great grandfather. Predeceased by his wife Arlene, his parents Glen Saunders and Margaret Workman, his sister Beverly (late John Grund) and John Saunders (Vivien). He will also be sorely missed by all his family and many friends.
Ivan spent his life helping others. He dedicated his life to his loving wife and children. He was born in Pembroke, Ontario on March 20, 1936 then to Sudbury (in a basket), then to Renfrew and finally to Bryson where his father worked at the mine on Calumet Island and his mother worked at the Bryson Hotel.
He went to school in Campbell’s Bay, Shawville, Ottawa and finally to McGill University in Montreal for engineering and hockey but the one constant was hockey which he loved and played until he was 75. He started delivering water by horse and cutting ice blocks for ice boxes. He then worked for Hydro and the Stone Consolidated paper mill. He was secretary for the town of Bryson for 14 years and was a charter member of the Bryson Lions Club where he received the Melvin Jones award.
Friends may call on Friday, February 7, 2025 at Hayes Funeral Home, 134 Centre Street, Shawville, Quebec from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at which time a Chapel Service will take place. Interment in the Spring in Norway Bay United Cemetery. Donations to the Valentine Centre, 1229 Route 148, Litchfield, Quebec J0X 1K0 or the Pontiac Community Hospital Foundation – Oncology would be appreciated.
