Irene’s Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Sharon Irene Williams. On Saturday, January 4th, 2025, Irene passed away at the Upper River Valley Hospital in Waterville, NB at the age of 73 years.
Irene dedicated her entire life to helping others. She graduated from the Woodstock School of Nursing in 1972 and obtained her Bachelor of Nursing from the University of New Brunswick in 1992. In her 47-year nursing career, she cared for her patients at the Woodstock Hospital, Colchester Hospital in Truro, Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton, St. Joseph’s Hospital in Saint John, and with the Extra-Mural programs in Perth-Andover and Waterville.
To know Irene was to love her. She was an incredibly compassionate and generous soul. She was at her happiest giving back to her community. For over 10 years Irene had the pleasure of teaching Sunday School at the Debec Trinity Church. She was also an active member of the Debec Quilters and a life member of the Debec Women’s Institute. For 23 years Irene was also a Girl Guide leader where she helped teach and empower young girls in the community. Grammy Rene, as she was affectionately known, had many hobbies but she especially loved baking, sewing, and bringing her craft supplies to any family gathering in hopes that she could spend time with the children making crafts or coloring a picture. Irene will be fondly remembered by many for her handmade cards, the bags of molasses cookies you were lucky enough to be gifted , and for the quilts she lovingly crafted for many family and like-family newborns and graduations.
Irene was a devoted wife and mother. Nothing was more important to her than her family. The greatest testament to this is to the 2 equally compassionate and generous boys she raised. Irene will be sadly missed by her soulmate and husband Leigh Williams of McKenzie Corner, NB; sons Brian Williams (Tina) of Quispamsis, NB, and Greg Williams (Jamie) of Union Corner, NB; grandchildren Annalise, Carter, Julia, and Danielle; brother Joel Monteith (Sabrina) of Woodstock, NB; “The Aunts”, 15 nieces and nephews, several great nieces, nephews, and cousins, extended family, close friends, and all others that have had the privilege to spend time with her. Irene is pre-deceased by her father, Lewis Monteith, and mother, Joyce (Bull) Monteith of McKenzie Corner, NB.
Irene is resting at the Scott Funeral Home in Woodstock, NB. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm.
Funeral Service will be on Thursday, Jan 9, 2025 at 2 pm. Rev Greg Williams officiating. Interment will be held at St. Paul`s Cemetery, Kirkland, NB at a later date.
If desired, donations in remembrance of Irene may be made to the Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto, the Upper River Valley Cancer Support Group, the Girl Guides of Canada, or an organization of your choice.
