Irene Gibos Obituary
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Irene Theresa Gibos, who was called to be with the Lord on September 5, 2025, at the Crowsnest Pass Health Care Centre in Blairmore, Alberta. She was 96 years old.
Born on February 20, 1929, in Blairmore, Alberta, Irene was the beloved daughter of Joseph and Mary Gibos. A lifelong resident and well-known member of the Crowsnest Pass community, Irene touched many lives with her warmth, dedication, and quiet strength.
For 15 years, Irene owned and operated the Twilight Confectionary with her sister, Helen, a place cherished by locals and visitors alike. Her welcoming spirit and commitment to service left a lasting impression on all who passed through its doors. A devout Catholic, Irene’s faith was a guiding light in her life. She was an active member of her parish and found great joy singing in the church choir. Her voice and presence enriched every service, reflecting her deep spiritual devotion. Irene spent many peaceful hours working outside, and she was also a talented artist who expressed herself through her creative work.
Irene’s life was truly well-lived, and she was well-loved. Her kindness, resilience, and unwavering faith leave a legacy that will long be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her.
Left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life is her sister, Helen Gibos; many nieces and nephews; and many friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Mary Gibos; her brothers, Tom, Joseph and John Gibos and their wives; her sisters, Millie Otteson, Anne Hurtak, Frances Amatto and Mary Ward and their husbands; as well as two infant brothers.
A Memorial Mass will be held at the Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church (13126 – 21 Ave., Blairmore, AB T0K 0E0) on Saturday, September 20, 2025 at 11:00am with Fr. Thomas Vadassery as Celebrant. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations will be gratefully accepted by the Holy Trinity Catholic Parish Building Fund (PO Box 1410 Blairmore, AB T0K 0E0).
