Bathurst – It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our lovely mother, Irene (Daigle) Roy, at Foyer Notre Dame de Lourdes in Bathurst, N.B. on December 30, 2024, after a very long struggle with health issues at the age of 87. She was the loving and faithful wife of Ernest Roy of Bathurst, formerly of Trudel, N.B.
She was predeceased by her parents: Arthur Daigle and Lucy (LeBlanc) Daigle, a son: Daniel Roy and a grandson: Jason Smith.
She is survived by one sister: Yvette Tobin (Walter) of Saint-John, N.B., her children: Ronald Roy (Gail) of Beresford, N.B., Marlene Smith of Bathurst, N.B., Lisa Roy (Jean-Pierre) of Quebec, Quebec and Janet Roy (Ronnie) of Campbellton, N.B.
Along with grandchildren: Cory Carmen, Michael, Julie, Samuel, Justine, Jeremie, Jodie, and Lucas and great-grandchildren: Brandon, Alysha, Caleb, Denver, Zackary, Leticia, Jansen, Piper and Abigaëlle.
She was born in Saint-John. She and her family later moved to Grande-Anse, N.B., then Trudel, N.B. and spent her final years in Bathurst, N.B. She worked in office/administration for several years, learning to speak French fluently when she was in her 40’s.
One of the greatest joys of her life was being an active Lifetime member of the St. Simon & St Jude Council Catholic Women’s League since 1964. The friendships she forged with her fellow members were precious to her. Each one will forever have a special place in her heart. After moving to Trudel, she enjoyed participating and volunteering in activities with the “Club l’Anneau d’Or de Paquetville”.
Over the years, Mum was known for her gentle spirit, her love of family and friends, her crafty hands, and her enjoyment of family genealogy. Sweet and delicious desserts were her specialty; making them, freely sharing them and eating them!
We would like to thank the staff of Residence Prestige and the Bathurst Regional Hospital Geriatric Unit for their wonderful care and support during her stay with them.
A funeral mass and burial will take place in Paquetville, N.B., in the spring. Words of condolences can be sent to Elhatton’s Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst, N.B. In lieu of monetary donation or flowers, a kind word or deed to a person in need would be much appreciated.
