Ida Parsons (née LeBlanc)
September 17, 1945 – February 20, 2025
With our hearts full of love, we celebrate the life of Ida Parsons (née LeBlanc), who passed away peacefully on February 20, 2025. Though she has moved on, Ida’s laughter, quick wit and mischievous smile will forever stay with those who knew and loved her.
When Ida was diagnosed with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis at the age of seven, her parents were told that she would not live to see her teens. But Ida was a fighter, and a stubborn one at that, who refused to let physical impairments hold her back. In the 1950s, disability often meant isolation and lack of opportunity, but Ida was bright, strong-willed, and supported by hardworking parents who insisted that she be treated like everybody else. As a result, her life went against all expectations placed on her. Ida was co-owner and operator of Renfrew Variety store in Dalhousie, N.B. in the late 1970s and early 80s, and dedicated the following decades advocating for the rights of the disabled in the Greater Moncton area. With drive and determination, Ida organized outings and activities for physically disabled adults, actively fought for increased accessibility at various local businesses, volunteered for the United Way, and strongly supported the expansion of Ability Transit. Ida also loved music and could often be found in the front row of many Moncton-area concerts. At the Collingwood Residence in Moncton, where she lived for many years, Ida organized music for fellow residents and loved sharing her infectious laughter with anyone who would stop and chat. Despite the overwhelming odds against her even reaching adulthood, Ida lived a very full life for nearly 80 years and kept her fighting spirit even until her final moments.
Ida was predeceased by her loving parents, Ned and Marie LeBlanc, her sisters Diana (Vaughn) Blaney, Thérese, Dorice, Tilley (Andy) Blanchard, and her brother Sonny. She is survived by her sister Shirlee, brother Guy (Maida), and many nieces, nephews, and their children. The family would like to thank the staff at Villa du Repos, in Moncton, for their compassion and care, in particular Chrissy Mcgraw, Guylaine S. LeBreton.
As per Ida’s wishes, no services or funeral will be held. Those who wish to honor Ida through a donation are invited to do so with the Canadian Rheumatology Association Foundation, Moncton Ability Transit, or CARMA Cat Rescue Moncton Chapter.
“If there comes a day that we cannot be together, keep me in your heart I’ll stay there forever.”
