Hugh James Wood, 90, passed away peacefully at his home at Chartwell Isabella on March 18, 2025.
Hugh was born in Williamstown, ON, into a large farming family on November 22, 1934. He was the youngest of 11 children. Hugh worked his entire career in education as a Principal, mainly in Red Rock and Thunder Bay. He was fortunate to have enjoyed 37 years of retirement. Much of Hugh’s enjoyment came from spending time with his wife of 65 years, his 6 children, 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. For the past 52 summers, you could find Hugh at his camp at Bell Harbour. It was the summer gathering place for his family, where cards were played and laughs were had.
In addition to numerous volunteer activities, Hugh was a member of the Knights of Columbus (4th Degree). He was a diehard Leaf’s fan ‘til the end, and a below average fisherman with a healthy fear of the water.
Hugh is survived by his wife Barb (Morrison); his children Sandra Jung (Doug), Mandy Fricot (Yves), Marcy Cooper (Keith), Michael (Sophie DeCoteau), James (Diana Milton) and Barb Francey; and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday March 25, 2025 at St. Agnes Church, with visitation at noon and a funeral mass at 1 pm.
