It is with
profound sadness we announce the death of Hughie MacEachern on April
12, 2025, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish,
with family by his side.
Hughie was
born on November 3, 1936, to Alex and Mamie (Chisholm) MacEachern of
Lower South River.
In his
younger years, he started his mechanical career in Halifax, returning
later to Lower South River where he lived the rest of his
life. He became a school bus driver – a job he
loved. He prided himself in knowing many students from his
bus long after they had left school. He had a great love of
Volkswagons and worked on them well into his later
years.
Hughie was a
long-time member of St. Andrews Volunteer Fire Department, a member of
Highlander Curling Club, and a volunteer CARE van driver for a number
of years. He was an altar server at St. Andrews parish for
many years. Hughie love bingo and cards; he played crib
right up until the time of his passing.
Hughie is
survived by his wife, Donelda (Hayne); sisters, Marguerite (Sonny)
Rennie, Antigonish; Marie (late Terry) Plunkett, Ontario; and Helen
(Graham) Hayne, St. Andrews; sister-in-law, Mae MacEachern,
Antigonish, and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his
parents, he is predeceased by his brothers, John R. and Jimmy (late
Florence).
Visitation
will be held Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm in C.L. Curry Funeral
Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish. Funeral Mass will be
held Wednesday at 11:00am in St. Andrew’s Church, St.
Andrews.
Family
flowers only, please.
In lieu of
flowers, donations to the Antigonish Chapter of CA-R-MA
appreciated.
