Holmes, Eric Joseph
It is with the most profound sadness that the family advises Eric Joseph Holmes, beloved son of Wally and Patricia (nee Rayner) Holmes, passed away on April 3, 2025 at the age of 28.
Eric will be lovingly remembered by his Grandma Glennys McGibbon and his Grandpa Ted Holmes (Donna). He was predeceased by his Grandma Jane Tuohy, his Grandpa Blair Rayner and will be remembered fondly by Annette Bolduc.
He was the much-loved nephew of Ed Holmes (Katherine), Marilyn Rayner, Sharon Gilchrist (Bob), Brenda Leet (John), and Jody Maechtel (Andrew), and will be missed by his cousins Sarah, Chloe, Christopher, Robert, Brittany, Michael, Candice, Alicia, Joshua, Alyssa, and was predeceased by his cousin Ryan. He was ‘Uncle Eric’ to his little cousins Bently and Rowan, who absolutely adored him. Eric’s fur buddy Miller will be missing him terribly.
Eric was born and raised in Meaford. From a young age he played in every sport he could, including hockey, baseball, lacrosse, soccer and curling. His passion though, was playing hardball with the Thornbury Rats. Eric was very friendly and social, he loved spending time with his friends and family, loved watching sports, following his favourite teams and telling stories about ‘the game that could have been’. He lit up any room he entered with his smile, wit and amazing sense of humour. He was a natural storyteller and loved to tease his grandmas when they played cards together; calling them the ‘lying, cheating grandmas’.
There was always a hug and smile when family came to visit or he went to visit with them. Over the years, Eric had many fur friends that he loved dearly whether they were his own or part of his extended families.
Eric’s kindness will never be forgotten; he touched many lives and was always happy to lend a helping hand. He had friends everywhere he went and always made you feel special because he cherished his friendships and took time to chat and catch up.
Eric left us far too soon and we will treasure the time we had with him. He will live on in our hearts and memories and will never be forgotten.
