July 29, 1930 – March 16, 2025
Jim passed away peacefully at Blue Water Rest Home, Zurich on Sunday, March 16, 2025 at the age of 94.
Survived by his beloved wife of 74 years, Jocelyn ¨Joy¨ (Tyre), Proud father of Debbie (Larry) Denomme, Lesley (John) Jeffrey and Roberta “Boo” Robertson (Brian Fraser). Loved papa of Bryan (Cathleen), Matthew (Heather), Meredith (AJ), Philip; Jarrett (Michelle), Jordan (Kelly), Jessica (Dennis), as well as his sister Sharon (the late Roy) Terry of Regina, SK and numerous nieces and nephews in Canada and the United States. Fondly remembered by Tamra Denomme, Carolyn, Maja, Shannon and Meaghan Barr.
Papa was so very proud of his 12 great-grandchildren, Robyn, Teagan; Maxwell, Alex, Blake, Addison; Dominic Bryce, Danica, Landon, Liam, and Blaire. He loved it when they came to visit, his room was filled with photos and drawings by them and he was especially proud of Liam, who was his “buddy” in conjunction with St. Boniface School.
Dad was predeceased by his parents James and Caroline (Ratcliffe) Hogg as well as his siblings William (Belle), Laurie (Clyde) Coats and David (Phyllis).
Dad met our Mom in Regina Saskatchewan where they were married and later moved to Kenora where their three daughters were born. He worked for Air Ambulance (OCA) and trained in aircraft mechanics. We moved to Selkirk Manitoba where every winter Dad made us a skating rink in the backyard. He spent winters “up north” which is why we think he was always cold. In 1965 we moved to Toronto, which dad called the “Banana Belt of Canada” (he lied) where he worked for Found Brothers Aviation.
In 1967 Found Brothers bought the Grand Bend Airport and the family was relocated to Zurich. When the company moved back to Toronto Mom and Dad purchased St. Joseph store and gas station where he used the double garage and also built his own hanger so he could continue his love for aircraft and rebuilt wings, engines and fuselages.
Our parents were avid travellers and traveled extensively over the years to places such as China, Japan, Costa Rica, Cuba and England.
Dad had a wicked sense of humor, was forthright and an honest man. Dad was his grandchildren’s number one fan when it came to sports especially hockey and baseball.
The family would like to thank the fantastic staff at the Blue Water Rest Home who were able to provide our dad with the best care. Godspeed dear papa ~ we love you. Cheer on the Habs while drinking non-thickened scotch!
As per Dad’s wishes, his body has been donated to the University of Western Ontario for medical research. Celebration of life to be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Haskett Funeral Home, Exeter (519-235-1220)
Donations to Alzheimer Society – Southwestern Partners, Blue Water Rest Home – Residents Fund or Brain Tumor Foundation of Canada would be appreciated by the family.
