It is with sadness and love that we announce Hilde has passed.
Twice widowed, Hilde leaves behind her beloved son Toni(Gudrun) and cherished grandson Matthew, having mourned the loss of her second son Steven in late 1999.
Hilde met her first husband, Anton (also Austrian) while working in Switzerland and together they came to Canada with little Toni to create a new life. Hilde’s eyes shone whenever we talked about the late Anton, the true love of her life.
With her second husband, Jakob, a mushroom farm business became a focus and they built a home in Burlington to raise the two sons.
An avid participant at St. John the Baptist Church on Brant Street, Hilde was active in the Legion of Mary and volunteered her time for the success of church bazaars. Through the Church, Hilde was able to accumulate donated stuffed animals and t-shirts in support of Matthew’s fundraising ventures for the Colin B. Glassco Charitable Foundation for Children. Sometimes she participated in rolling thousands of pennies.
We wish to thank everyone at SUNRISE and at Aged Care in Burlington for the loving care and attention she received while in residence there.
Hilde has been cremated and a private family service will be held at a later date.
