Obituary of Henry Goschl
GOSCHL, Heinrich ‘Henry’
November 9th 1930 – February 8th, 2025
Henry Goschl immigrated in 1955 and met his wife and life partner Joan shortly after arriving in Canada. He then began his career at GMC, a position that he held for 35 years.
A man of God, lover and keeper of every animal, plant and creature including bunnies or “rabbits”, if they were on the dinner table. He was a true woodsman and had the tidiest woodpile for miles. He fell into – and climbed out of – a deep abandoned well in his seventies.
Henry was a friend to many and although quiet by nature, he wasn’t afraid to speak his mind. He enjoyed indulging in Duff Gordon or a Riesling and would insist on drinking to his company’s health and would ask you to do the same (which he always did).
A man who always had a joke or a story that would leave you roaring with laughter and breathless. Who commanded a room the moment he spoke in that thick Austrian accent, gave the best hugs and had the strongest man to man handshake… while at the same time was so gentle with the little ones.
Henry would wink when he declared he “likes dark meat” when we carved the turkey at Thanksgiving; a nod to his late wife Joan, who was from the Cayman Islands. He showed his immediate and extended family a profound amount of unconditional love and was the proudest and doting Opa to many.
Henry, Heinrich, Opa, was patience, gentleness and class wrapped up in the hardest working, most disciplined yet kind Austrian man.
Henry is predeceased by his wife Joan (nee McCoy), his parents and his two siblings in Austria. Henry is survived by his three children Charles (Dina), Martin, Francis and his two grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
As your favourite song goes, “You made us happy when skies were grey. You’ll never know, dear, how much we love you”. Our sunshine won’t be gone. We will see you in every sunbeam, every gleam and in every ray.
Arrangements have been entrusted to THE HENDREN FUNERAL HOME – LAKEFIELD CHAPEL. Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice Peterborough by calling 705-652-3355 or by visiting www.hendrenfuneralhome.com
God looked around his garden and found an empty special space. He then looked down upon this earth and saw your loving tired face. He gently put his arms around you and softly lifted you to rest. God’s garden is truly beautiful and he only accepts the best.
A man amongst men, you showed us all to be humble, kind and to have faith in the Lord. You showed us all to love one another and at the end of each day, to be thankful and pray. We will always love you for all your graciousness, more than words can ever say and we all will never forget your love yesterday, tomorrow and most of all, today.
After a storm – comes the sun. You always said, “tomorrow’s another day”. Rest in peace faithful servant. God’s will, will be done in heaven as you have done in faith.
Your loving son, Martin
