Henry (Hank) Ejack – 1947-2024
It’s Birthday time in Heaven.
Today we celebrate the life and death of Henry (Hank) Ejack – he would be 78 today.
Hank died suddenly and unexpectedly on December 8th, 2024, leaving a painful void in his family. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Kathy, his daughter Megan, his son Mark, daughter-in-law Cea and his “sweetheart” grandson, Ocean. He also leaves behind his brother Dennis, along with several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews from coast to coast, whom he loved dearly.
Hank was born in Saskatoon and attended Victoria School, Nutana Collegiate and the University of Saskatchewan. In high school he was known for his prowess and athleticism as a basketball “star” as well as his snappy style.
Hank followed his calling to Europe and the UK as part of his global hospitality education, eventually landing back in Canada where he began to cultivate a well-known 34 year career in hotels. He started at the Bessborough Hotel in Saskatoon and progressed with various other CN Hotels including the MacDonald Hotel in Edmonton, Jasper Park Lodge and the Nova Scotian in Halifax where he met his wife, Kathy. Other areas privileged to enjoy his expertise were several private hotel chains across Canada. After retiring from this illustrious career, he then moved on to enjoy many more years of business and meeting people in his new role as a Sales Manager for CFIB. Hank attempted retirement a couple more times, but ended up with CFIB for 20 years.
Hank’s honesty, diplomacy, patience and respected business influence earned him many friends and accolades over the years. He was a long time member of the Saskatoon Downtown Rotary Club, serving as Director and a double Paul Harris member. He enjoyed meeting and connecting with people and could often be found chatting with friends and colleagues (new and old) in any number of Tim Hortons coffee shops, an old fashioned plain donut in hand. There might be a noticeable difference in Tim Horton numbers since his death… He was a huge fan!
He was passionate about culture and current affairs and loved art, music and discourse in any way shape or form. Having been an athlete himself, he also enjoyed many sports – from family ski trips, to tennis, golf, and watching the Riders, Raptors and Blue Jays (in person preferred.)
More than all this, he was kind, compassionate and complex. A wonderful father and husband and he is missed every moment of every day.
A Celebration of his life will be shared with his family at a later date
