Obituary
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Delma Kendrick in his 85th year. He lived at St. Lawrence Lodge overlooking the St. Lawrence River in Brockville for 12 + years. It was remarkable that he spent that time confined to a wheelchair in a Long Term Care facility and never complained. It was a pleasure to visit him. The staff provided good care and were accommodating. For 10 years we were able to celebrate his birthday, Christmas and Easter in the privacy of the Lodge with a room overlooking the river, watching the ships sail past.
Del was very proud of his upbringing in Shag Harbour. We spent many hours reminiscing about his childhood in our village.
He left home at the age of 14 to complete his education in Kentville, boarding at his cousin’s, Doris Trask and attended high school where his Uncle Doug was principal. Del attended Acadia University and graduated with a degree in Chemistry. His first job was at Du Pont and later at Casio. Del was a collector of things,; coins, stamps and antique glassware. Whatever he undertook, he did it with passion. He loved to cook, thanks to the influence of his mother, played cards, tennis and gardening. His gardens were surrounded by rocks he collected from Shag Harbour, Bon Portage and Lake Huron.
He spent Christmas in Shag Harbour and loved coming home in the spring and summer to visit family, golf and explore the shore.
Del will be missed by sister Priscilla (Sid) and Doug, brother David and Geraldine and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Edna(Shand), sister Peggy and Lloyd Brown and infant sister Dawn Marie.
Many thanks to Larry Shand and Pat Allport who dropped in to visit Del and were our eyes and ears when family couldn’t visit.
A private family gathering to celebrate Del’s life will happen in the Fall. Online condolences may be sent to huskilson@ns.aliantzinc.ca or you may sign the guest book at www.huskilson.net
