Helen Gail Fraser
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Helen Gail Fraser, a loving mother, proud Gram, caring sister, spirited aunt and loyal friend. Helen leaves behind her daughter Sara Simpson (Jason Savoury), grand daughter Haillie Savoury (Connor Boyd) brother Whit Fraser (Mary Simon- Governor General of Canada) nieces and nephews one of whom she had an extra special relationship with, Rissy Jean Ann ( Claire Munroe), her companion Wayne Maclellan, and the many friendships she had throughout her life.
Helen was born in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia to Marvin and Louise Fraser, she grew up on Stellar Street in Stellarton and was blessed to share her life with seven brothers and sisters, all of whom she had a loving and unique relationship with. Helen lived with the sorrow of losing her sisters and brother, John Dan Fraser, Thelma Campbell, Sara Barnett, Marvina Voss, Esther Munroe, and Linda Fraser. She was grateful to still have her big brother Whitney in her life and beamed with love and immense pride she had for him.
Helen’s personality was’ larger than life’. She was very much an entertainer who could keep people in stitches for hours and often did. She was full of life, fun and had more then enough charisma to fill up any space. Helen had many gifts, creatively, she could do anything she put her hands to. She crafted and painted. She could sing and play the guitar, with her signature song back in the day being “Me and Bobby MaGee”. Her most precious and exceptional gift was her ability to make people smile and laugh out loud.
Throughout her life Helen learned many life lessons and she lived by a guiding philosophy, “It’s the little things, ALWAYS the little things” she valued small often overlooked details and gestures, that in the end, really matter. She joked that ‘someday her boat will come in’.
Helen had a deep faith in God and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Stellarton where in her earlier years she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. She loved children and they were drawn to her huge personality.
A memorial service will take place Saturday, April 5th at 3:00pm with Rev Dr. Glen Matheson officiating at H. W. Angus Funeral Home 256 King Street, New Glasgow, NS.
Helen will always be remembered by all who loved her. Go forward and appreciate the little things….moments of connection with loved ones, appreciating nature, enjoying a favourite meal, walking on the beach, ….
