HELEN LOUISE GRAY paddled her long journey to her final destination – to be with Her Lord at the age of 96.
Born in Halifax to a WW1 veteran and railway postal clerk, Murray Horton and homemaker, Florence (Miller) Horton, she was raised on the family farm in Brenton. For her early education, Helen walked a mile to a little schoolhouse on the Brenton Cross Road. Helen switched her career choice to nursing, having graduated as a registered nurse in the class of 1950. Married in 1953 to Donald Ellison Gray, she bore him their seven children within a decade. She was a devoted wife and mother. She also loved her work in the Outpatients and as a O.R. nurse.
Helen found her faith in God early in her marriage. She was active in the Pleasant Valley Baptist church in many capacities for over 60 years. She made many dear friends there. She was also active in the local Women’s Institute and Missionary Aid Society.
Besides her parents, Helen was predeceased by her brother, W.M. “Sonny” Horton (2019), her beloved children, Gordon (1986) and Christine Gray (Deveau) (2002) and her greatest love of her life, Donald (2017).
