Helen passed away at Dufferin Oaks, Shelburne, in her 102nd year.
Born on a farm on the West Back Line, Proton Township, Helen was the eldest of 12 children of George and Hazel Duncan. On September 18, 1948, she married Harry Lyon. They resided most of their married life on a farm on Highway 10, 1 mile north of Shelburne and were married for 54 years until Harry passed away in 2002.
Helen will be sorely missed by her son, John (Susan) from Calgary, Alberta, and her daughter, Janet (Brent) of Mansfield. She was the proud grandmother of her four grandchildren, Emerson, Jessica (Dayne), Bradley (Jessica), and Julianna as well as being blessed with great-grandchildren, Claire, Derek, Carrie, Wraya, Elwood, and Sadie. Helen was loved and is survived by her youngest brother, Howard, as well as her many nieces and nephews.
Helen was predeceased by her brothers Jack, Doug, Bert, Donald, Alec, Russell, Kenneth, and George and her sisters, Georgina and Peg.
Helen’s life was always dedicated to helping others. Her many accomplishments included her devotion to Trinity United Church, employment and volunteering at Dufferin Oaks, involvement in Shelburne Figure Skating Club, 4-H Club leader, Women’s Institute, Shelburne Fair, judged at local fall fairs, just to name a few.
Arrangements entrusted to Jack & Thompson Funeral Home. A private family service is being held. Spring interment at Shelburne Cemetery.
