Heidi D. B. Pass (née Weber) died peacefully at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre in Barrie, Ontario on February 18, 2025. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Peter (2021) and siblings Gerald, Marlene and Carmen. Fondly remembered by nieces Andrea and Susan Weber, Michelle Roy, Lisa Bissette, Sharon Pass, Carolyn Cormier and nephew Jamie Pass as well as several cousins and special friends.
Heidi grew up in Stratford, Ontario and enjoyed all aspects of life in this special community. After graduating from high school, she went on to earn her undergraduate and Bachelor of Education degrees at the University of Western Ontario (now Western University).
Heidi trained as a secondary school teacher and spent most of her teaching career in the Barrie area. While a classroom teacher at Banting Secondary School in Alliston she had an opportunity to move into guidance services. She discovered a real connection with teens and enjoyed the opportunities to guide young people’s lives. Until her retirement in 1995 she was the head of guidance at Innisdale Secondary School in Barrie. She was held in high regard by both students and teachers.
In their shared retirement years Peter and Heidi enjoyed time with good friends, taking in shows at the Stratford Theatre and attending concerts whenever there were performances featuring jazz and classic rock. Family was important and distance never prevented Heidi and Peter from attending family gatherings or recognizing special occasions.
Heidi had a fondness for animals especially the West Highland Terriers many of whom found a loving home with Heidi and Peter. They both enjoyed the water and spent many hours on their sailboat (second home) with friends and relatives while anchored in the harbour on Kempenfelt Bay or out on Lake Simcoe. Excursions on the boat also included trips to the southern states of Georgia, Louisiana and Florida where they had pleasurable visits with other retired friends.
People were important to Heidi and in particular her friendships. She possessed a number of special qualities that made her a wonderful friend and companion. She will be missed by those who have enjoyed long and happy relationships with her.
Heidi often commented that life isn’t a dress rehearsal. She pursued all opportunities to enjoy life to its fullest.
A memorial service will be held at St. James Anglican Church in Stratford, Ontario at 11 am on Monday, April 28, 2025. If desired memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or to the Ontario SPCA (Barrie Animal Centre). These were special charities to Heidi.
