Harry Wallace Hill Obituary
Harry Wallace Hill, at the age of 82 years, passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, in the early hours of January 24th, 2025 at the Health Sciences Centre in St. John’s.
He was predeceased by his parents, William and Lovelett Hill of Campbellton, NL, as well as four brothers and two sisters.
Leaving to mourn are his wife of 57 ½ years, Jean, two sons Stephen (Celyeste), Trevor (Jacqui), four granddaughters Meghan, Madison (Ryan) Schmidt, Ashley, and Lacey (boyfriend David), first great-grandchild, Emmalyn Ann Schmidt, 3 months old, seven brothers and two sisters.
At the age of 17 years, Harry gave his heart to the Lord, beginning a long life of evangelical commitment and service. He served joyfully and faithfully, always with praise in his heart. Out of this abundance, songs flowed from his lips.
Harry had a fulfilling and active church life in all the places he resided: Campbellton, Labrador City, Windsor, and finally Mount Pearl; serving on church boards, leading praise & worship services, representing the Eastern Pentecostal Bible College for Park Avenue Pentecostal Church, acting as First President of Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International (St. John’s Chapter), teaching Sunday School, and leading Boys & Girls Club. Complementing his leadership, he was involved in various groups from ushering and welcoming teams to men’s fellowship and prayer groups of the Pentecostal churches. He was also involved in the men’s fellowship and 50+ group of the Salvation Army churches of Mount Pearl and Mundy Pond, St. John’s and Hillcrest Estates.
Harry was a diligent provider for his family and took pleasure in working until his retirement at the age of 70. He was a conscientious worker, always serving his employers with integrity. He was well liked and respected by his co-workers.
Harry’s relationship with God was paramount to every aspect of his life, no matter in public or in private. At home, he was a Godly influence, beginning his married life with prayer and continuing every day until his passing. Through the busyness of raising a family, including when his sons began families of their own, his prayer over them remained a constant.
His granddaughters were the joy of his life, with the most recent addition being his great-granddaughter: a light to him when he needed it most.
His devotion to God and family left a lasting impact on those around him, particularly his sons, who following his example, prayed on many occasions with him and their mother. What a blessing!
Whether at church, home, or work, many people remember Harry because of his contagious energy, kindness and warmth, making all feel welcomed and at home in his presence; a reflection of the joy he felt inside.
Through the ups and downs of life, sickness and health, his faith remained unwavering, leaving a spiritual legacy that lives on.
During the last few months of his life, Harry had difficulty with his speech. In the midst of this challenge, he would speak out words from deep within, so very clear to the care workers and everyone who came to visit him:
“God is so good;
God is so good to me;
God is so good to my family;
GOD IS SO GOOD!”
We would like to extend our appreciation to the staff of 3 East, Chancellor Park and 4NA of the Health Sciences Centre for their care and compassion.
