The family of Harry Bastness is saddened to announce his sudden passing at Pineview Terrace
Lodge in Prince Albert, SK at the age of 90 years. Harry was born in Prince Albert, SK to Helmer
and Magnhild Bastness on November 11, 1934. He grew up on the family farm near Hagen with
his parents and one sister, Lillian. He spent the majority of his life farming in the district.
He married Joyce (Joy) Cromarty in 1958 in Edmonton where they resided a few weeks before
his job with Canadian Meter Company took them to Erie, Pennsylvania, for 6 months, then back
to Edmonton with a home in Sherwood Park for 3 years, followed by a transfer to Burlington,
Ontario.
In 1964, they returned to Saskatchewan to take over the family farm. Harry was very active in
the community, serving on the local Co-op Board, as delegate for Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, as
director for the Birch Hills Credit Union and Credit Union Deposit Guarantee Corporation. Later,
he chaired the Saskatchewan Crop Insurance Appeal Panel for several years.
Harry was an ardent member of Saron Lutheran Church where he served as a Trustee and
faithfully rang the bell every Sunday. He loved entertaining kids, telling stories, having coffee
with the neighbours, and talking farming. He was always willing to give a helping hand where
needed.
He leaves behind cherished memories with Joy and daughters, Lori and Bev, and grandchildren,
Conner (Sarah), Hunter (Vuk), Chanel and Cassidy who had lots of fun with him on the farm, his
brothers-in-law, several nieces and nephews who enjoyed camping and boating together with
him.
Harry was predeceased by his parents, an infant brother, sister, as well as many brothers-in-law,
aunts, uncles and cousins.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, April 19, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Saron Lutheran
Church (near Hagen, 2 miles south of # 25 hwy).
