Obituary of Harriet Albina Stairs
It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of Harriet Albina Stairs (Harding, Yerxa) on April 1st, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on May 15th, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Hartley Rude and Georgia (Palmer) Yerxa of Springhill, NB. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her daughter, Diann Flewelling (Wayne) of Ripples, NB; son, John Harding (Lisa) of Lakeville Corner, NB; sister, Carol Cantle of Moncton; daughter in law, Gale Landry of Fredericton, NB; sister-in-law, Mocilia Yerxa of Mississauga, ON; sister-in-law, Stella Corry of Fredericton, NB; sister-in-law, Jean McVicar of St. George, NB; brother-in-law, Neil Stairs of Fredericton, NB; sister-in-law, Carol Drost (Ivan) of Fredericton, NB; nine grandchildren, Chris, Sheila, Angela, Jared, Jennifer, David, Thomas, Austin and Brooke; great-grandchildren, Drake, James, Ashley, Emma, Quinn, Addy, Harper, Stella, Layla, Sophie, Cam, Jade, and Blair; step great-grandchildren; Quinn, and Mack.
Harriet was predeceased by her first husband, Arnold Harding; her second husband, Merlin Stairs; daughter, Debbie LaPalme; son, Peter Harding; sisters, Kay, Gladys and Marion; brothers, Ralph, Glen, Donald and Gilbert.
Harriet loved her family and friends and was always happiest when she had a full house. She enjoyed lifelong hobbies of knitting and quilting. She always had a new quilt on hand for a marriage or a new baby. She loved to travel and enjoyed many wonderful trips down south and abroad. She thoroughly enjoyed going to bingo and spent many years bowling. Harriet was a member of Christ Church in Maugerville for many years. She worked for the provincial government in the department of vital statistics for fifteen years. In recent years she loved her great-grandchildren coming for a visit to get a chocolate from a dish she always kept full.
She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity and sense of adventure.
On Saturday, April 5, 2025, a funeral will be held at the Oromocto Funeral Home at 2 pm, with a reception to follow.
The family would like to thank Minto Service for Seniors for the kindness and companionship they showed to Harriet over the last 8 months. For those who wish donations may be made to the Maugerville Baptist Cemetery or a charity of the donor’s choice.
