LITTLE, Harold A. C.D. (Retired)
Harold A. Little was born in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia on June 8th, 1938. The son of George and Edith (Mae MacTavish) Little of Pictou, Nova Scotia. Harold passed away on March 6, 2025. He was predeceased by his only brother Lawson leaving Harold as the last surviving member of his family. Harold was also predeceased by his loving wife Elizabeth Francis (Betty Sharpe) Little in 2017 whom Harold adored and sang to until the final moments of her life. Harold served in the Canadian Navy on the Haida, Fort Erie, Port St. Jean, Ottawa, Restigouche, and the Saskatchewan. He loved nothing more than to share the stories of the adventures he had and the people he met. An avid note-taker and photographer, he carefully documented his stories and generously donated them to the McCulloch House Museum and Genealogy Centre for all to see. Harold served two tours of duty on the naval ships in the Baltic Sea and area during the Cold War. He was a Veteran of the United Nations Emergency Forces who served in the Middle East in 1976, 1977, and 1978 and was a member of the Blue Helmets of Peace Keeping in Egypt. In 1988 & 1989 they received the Nobel Peace Prize for all their efforts in those very difficult times. Harold served with NATO and NORAD in various areas and served on Canadian naval ships in support of the Americans during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. Harold has been a member of Branch 16 Royal Canadian Legion in Pictou for over 50 years. He will be missed dearly by his many friends and acquaintances who will remember Harold for his generosity, his desire to help those less fortunate, his smart sense of humor, and his dedication to keeping the history of his family and his adventures alive. Many citizens of Pictou County will miss the welcoming site of Harold pulling up in his blue Chevy truck with the fancy tires when he stopped by to visit, bring gifts or just have a chat. He will be especially missed by his big dog Max who was his faithful companion for many years. Friends of Harold wish to thank the Palliative Care staff who were so kind to him in his last days and also thank his “girls” who were especially helpful and loving to him in his last years and final moments. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the SPCA in Pictou County, Nova Scotia in honour of his rescue dog, Max, who rarely left Harold’s side.
