Harold William Stanley McKay
1943-2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Harold Willam
Stanley McKay of Upper Caverhill, NB who left us peacefully at the age
of 81.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Harold
was a man of hard work, deep kindness and unwavering dedication to his
family and community. His dry sense of humour, twinkle in his eye and
small smile always told you he was about to gift you with one of his
‘dry’ one liners’ that always brought a laugh and
smile to those around him.
Born and raised in Upper Caverhill, NB, Harold spent 34 years working
at the pulp and papermill while also farming beef cattle and haying. A
lifelong passion that kept him connected to the land he cherished. He
found true joy in the outdoors – whether tending to his cattle,
taking care of his horses in earlier years, cutting wood in his
beloved woodlots or just simply enjoying the life on the farm.
In 1965, Harold met the love of his life, Carolyn (nee Lenentine) and
they married in 1966, sharing 58 wonderful years together. Their love
and partnership built a strong and caring family, which was the heart
of Harold’s world. He leaves behind his wife Carolyn and their
three children: Janice Corey (Edwin), Jennifer Liston (Michael) and
Jonathon McKay (Laura-Lea). Harold was a proud grandfather to Emma
Fauvelle (James), Jacob Amon (Gillian), Joshua Liston (Lyndsey),
Matthew Liston (Logan), and Annie Liston (Chipman), as well as a
cherished great-grandfather to Ella Fauvelle and Charlie Holland.
Harold also leaves behind sisters Marlene MacBride (Michael), Frances
Scott (Keith) and Virginia (Ginny) Gibbons (Larry) and sister and
brothers in law on the Lenentine side, Judith Dickinson (Robert),
Catherine Hills, Nona Thomas (Peter), Leland Lenentine and several
nieces, nephews and great nieces.
Harold is predeceased by his parents, Charles Stanley McKkay and Irma
Annie (nee Brawn) three sisters and brothers in law, Maxine Dobson
(Charlie), Rhona Campbell (Orville) and Irene Barlow (Howard)
A true community man and man of faith, Harold was always the first to
lend a hand. Whether helping a neighbor in need, assisting a fellow
farmer, or offering support to someone facing hard times, he believed
in the power of kindness and hard work. His legacy of generosity and
dedication will live on in the many lives he touched.
Harolds family finds comfort in knowing he is now at peace, with his
heavenly father to whom he dedicated his life to from an early
age.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at
Flewellings Funeral Home, 585 Otis Drive, Nackawic, NB. Visitation
hours will be 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm with funeral and reception to
follow. Pallbearers will be Matthew Liston, Jacob Amon, James
Fauvelle, Rick Campbell, Dennis Connor and Marcus Wallace.
The family encourages acts of kindness in his memory – help a
neighbor, lend a hand, or simply share a moment in the great outdoors,
as Harold so often did. A donation to the Upper Caverhill Cemetery or
the Millville Nackawic Baptist Church in Harold’s memory would also be
welcomed.
He will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
2 Timothy 4:7 – I have fought the good fight, I have finished
the race, I have kept the faith.
