It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Gregory Martin Wagner on March 3rd, 2025 at the age of 65. He is lovingly remembered by his two brothers Rob (Diana), and Gord (Sharon); nieces and nephews Ryan, Jackie (Trevor), Tara, Ty (Courtney), Tricia, and Taylor (Sarah); and great-niece and nephews Zachary, Adison, Wyatt, Weston, Ryder, Austin, Bo, Cambria, and Philip. Greg was predeceased by his loving parents Harry and Eleanor Wagner.
Greg was born on December 31st, 1959 in Calgary, Alberta — the first of three sons. He spent his early childhood in Calgary, where he attended Westgate Elementary School and Vincent Massey Junior High. The family moved to High River where Greg attended Senator Riley High School. After graduating in 1977, Greg went on to receive a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Biological Sciences from the University of Calgary. He worked for many years as a Wildlife Biologist, and later started his own Environmental Consulting Firm.
Greg was a steward of nature, and a passionate conservationist. He was a prominent High River naturalist, and local bird and wildlife expert. Over the years Greg carried out extensive research projects and engaged in numerous advocacy efforts to protect threatened natural species. Greg organized the annual Christmas Bird Count in High River, and acted as a caretaker for the Frank Lake IBA (Important Bird Area).
Greg cared deeply about his family. He was a loving son, brother, uncle and great- uncle. He will be missed dearly, and will be in our hearts always.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
