Gregory John Rodd Obituary
Gregory John Rodd
April 18, 1961 – March 21, 2025
With profound and heartbreaking sadness, we announce the death of Greg Rodd on Friday, March 21 at Kingston General Hospital, Kingston Ontario. He died surrounded by those he loved the most. Greg was born and raised in Greenbank, Ontario, and was a long-time employee of General Motors in Oshawa. He retired prior to GM Oshawa being shut down so it was apparent to him they simply couldn’t survive without him. At that time, he and Kathleen, who was undeniably the love of his life, moved to Kingston Ontario where they would be closer to family.
Greg was athletic as a child and enjoyed watching his Boston Bruins play hockey. There was never a better player than number 4, Bobby Orr. When his son, Nicholas, was born on January the 4th Greg saw that as his lifelong connection to Bobby Orr. Greg played on the Greenbank Gamblers baseball team for many years and also drove to Sunderland from Oshawa to play hockey every Sunday morning. As well, he played football while at Port Perry High School.
After high school he attended Durham College in Oshawa.
Greg was a self-taught handyman where he sought perfection in all of his projects. This led him into the kitchen where he excelled as a cook and a baker.
No one ever did Christmas better than Greg! The tree, the decorations, the gifts, the cooking… everything was perfect.
Greg’s adult life was not always easy but he remained positive and always kept his keen sense of humour.
He chose his family and friends wisely. Greg was never happier than when he was surrounded by family.
He was funny and kind and thoughtful and honest and caring and he loved with his whole heart! He had a genuine love for life.
He loved his sister, Donna, unconditionally and she loved him. No one could have been a better brother!
Greg was ecstatic when his son Nicholas was born. Greg absolutely shone as a Dad.
He was so proud of everything Nicholas did, but never more so than when Nick graduated from Queens’s University on the Dean’s list.
Kathleen was his loving wife, his best friend and his soulmate. Their years together were filled with love, laughter and respect for each other. They travelled as one as they fought against Greg’s cancer.
Left to mourn Greg are his beloved wife, Kathleen, who filled Greg’s life with love, and his son, Nicholas (Giorgia), who brought so much love and pride to Greg. Also deeply devastated is his loving sister Donna Kampman (Dave) as well as his nieces Allison and Angela (Jonathan). He was loved by his stepchildren Kennedy (Ryan) and Zack (Marissa). Missing him as well is Elora who called him GiGi and adored him as much as he adored her.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Piliotis and her Oncology Team. Greg was so appreciative of everything you did for him, as well as for Kathleen. A special thank you to Rosey who made those visits so much easier. Greg spoke so highly of all the staff involved with his care and we thank you.
Rest now Greg. Your pain has gone.
A Celebration of Greg’s life will be held at a later date.
