Following a lengthy battle with cancer, Gregory Allan Michael Ozey of Morinville, Alberta passed away peacefully, at home, April 19 at the age of 68.
From a young age, Greg displayed a keen interest in building and creating. As a boy, he delighted in assembling models of all kinds—filling the house with the unmistakable scent of glue and paint, much to the dismay of his siblings. This early fascination with detail and craftsmanship would remain with him throughout his life.
As a teenager, Greg developed a love for motocross. Though his racing days were cut short by a broken collarbone, his enthusiasm for motorsports never waned. He later channeled that same energy into an XS1100 Yamaha which brought him so much joy. It was during this time that he also followed the Formula 1 circuit—interests that brought him joy throughout adulthood.
Greg’s professional journey began in the culinary arts. He worked for years up at the Beaufort Sea, honing his skills in demanding conditions. Eventually seeking to be closer to home, he transitioned into the trade of pipe insulation. Through dedication and hard work, Greg earned his journeyman ticket and became a proud member of the International Association of Heat & Frost Insulators & Asbestos Workers Local No. 110. His career culminated at Westgate Insulation (1993) Ltd., a family-run business where he found not only meaningful work but also lasting camaraderie.
Beyond his professional achievements, Greg was a man of many passions. He had an insatiable thirst for knowledge and spent hours researching topics that piqued his interest. A devoted fan of motorsports, he loved watching Formula 1 and NASCAR racing. His enthusiasm extended beyond spectating; Greg meticulously built a phenomenal collection of Formula 1 RC cars from scratch—a hobby that brought him immense pride and joy.
Greg will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Debbie of 25 years; his daughter, Lyndsay; his brother, Doug (Elizabeth); sister, Lu (David); sister, Leslie-Ann (Don) and his cherished grandchildren, Braiden, Dylan and Sofia, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Gregory was predeceased by his father, Douglas and his mother, Sylvia.
Although he may be gone his legacy will live on through the people he touched. We will carry his memory with us, and it brings me comfort to know that so much of him is alive in friends and family.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a place and date to be determined.
Arrangements entrusted to Connelly-McKinley St. Albert Funeral Home.
