After a short illness, Grant Blagden passed away peacefully on March 1, 2025 with family by his side at the Portage District General Hospital at the age of 72 years.
Grant was predeceased by his wife Sylvia, grandson Declan, parents Alfred and Daisy Blagden and brother Neil. Left to mourn his passing are his children Donald (Crystal) Blagden of Alberta, Rhonda Blagden of Gillam, Grant (Carolyn) Blagden of St. Claude, David (Cindy) Milligan of Portage and Roberta (Guido) Rosen of Shilo, grandchildren Derek, Victoria, Brandy, Mykle, Tara, Savanna, Jordan, Alex, Tianna, Carlie, Shyan and Donald Jr., as well as many great and great-great grandchildren; along with numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Grant was born in Portage la Prairie, MB, while growing up in Lavenham and Portage. He was married to his loving wife Sylvia for 45 years until her passing in May of 2015. Grant worked several jobs in his life, beginning at the age of 16, where he worked at Safeway as a stock person. Moving on to the CN Railroad for several years, then after that worked on many farms in the surrounding area. His greatest accomplishment was establishing himself a successful cleaning business S.P.A.C.E. Enterprises (Serious people about cleaning everything) until his motorcycle accident which took away his ability to continue working. He loved all his family, both his own and extended family, The Thompson’s and The Bernard’s. He loved to always joke with family with his light, heartedness. He enjoyed playing baseball and shooting pool in his younger years. He loved to have family visits, in which he would get his timmies. In the last few years, he enjoyed spending time on his computer and watching movies which is evident by his extensive movie collection. He will truly be missed both by family and friends and everyone that knew him, may he rest in peace.
Visitation and Viewing will take place at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel on Friday, March 7, 2025 from 7pm to 8pm. Family and friends are welcome to attend a graveside service at the Rossendale Cemetery on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at 2pm.
As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made in Grant’s memory Canadian Diabetes Association, 1300-522 University Ave. Toronto, ON M5G 2R5 or Canadian Mental Health Association -Central Region 102 1st Street NW Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 1Y9.
