Gordon Lloyd Kroeker Obituary
Gordon Lloyd Kroeker, aged 84, of Steinbach, Manitoba, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, after a courageous and lengthy battle with cancer. He has been called home to be with his personal Savior, where he is at peace, free from pain, and surrounded by his loved ones.
Gordon will be dearly missed by his beloved wife, Kathy, with whom he shared 61 years of marriage. He was a loving father to his son, Clayton (Aimee), and daughter, Jennifer (Darren), and was a proud grandfather to his five grandchildren: Braeden (Colleen), Meyson (Ashley), Foster (Nicole), Avery, & Kelsey as well as a cherished great-grandfather to his eight great-grandchildren: Marrex, Parker, Mila, Bentley, Miller, Riddley, Clyde, and a baby girl on her way.
Gordon will also be lovingly remembered by his sisters: Laura, Carol, Andrea, Betty-Lou; his brother, Peter; his sister-in-law, Sarah; and his brother-in-law, Arnie. He leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and also countless friends whose lives he touched.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Laurie, who passed in infancy, as well as his parents, Walter and Katherine Kroeker. Gordon was also preceded in death by his brothers-in-law: Dave, Rodney, Larry, and Wilbert.
Gordon grew up on a farm northeast of Steinbach and often spoke of the special bond he had with his grandma Plett. At the age of 16, he moved to Steinbach and began working in the heavy equipment industry. In 1963, Gordon married Kathy, and together they moved around with road construction projects before settling in Steinbach in 1972, where they bought a home to raise their family. Later they moved to a condo where he lived out his final years.
Gordon spent several years working for Penner Construction before starting his own business, R & K Construction. Soon after, he also started Gravel Rite, selling gravel out of his parents’ gravel pit. Over time, Gordon also managed up to four trucks for Arnold Brothers. He gradually retired, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and dedication to his family.
Gordon was a true adventurer at heart, always game for new experiences and intentional about creating lasting memories with family and friends. He loved fishing at Pointe du Bois, where every summer was filled with laughter and unforgettable moments. His passion for the outdoors also took him on annual hunting trips out west, where his quick wit and one-liners kept everyone laughing. Whether riding his Harley Davidson, snowmobiling in the winter, or traveling with family, Gordon was always open to new adventures and took risks with a fearless spirit. His adventurous nature and zest for life will be fondly remembered by all who shared his passions.
With the passing of our beloved father, grandfather & great grandfather, we have lost the steady anchor of our family. His strength, wisdom, and innovative ideas shaped our lives in countless ways. Gordon was a resourceful, self-taught man who could always find a solution, whether it was fixing a car, supporting his deck, or pulling someone out of the ditch.
He was deeply invested in every detail of his children’s, grandchildren’s, and great-grandchildren’s lives, always eager to listen, celebrate their achievements, and offer guidance. He never wanted to miss a moment, cherishing every gathering, conversation, and milestone. Gordon prayed faithfully for his family, always keeping them close to his heart.
His compassion and love were evident in everything he did, and his home was always open to family, offering a place of warmth, love, and support. His willingness to help, combined with his one-of-a-kind sense of humor, made him a constant source of comfort and joy.
While we mourn his loss, we will forever carry with us the lessons he taught, the love he gave, and the laughter he shared. We have lost a great man, and our family will never be the same without him.
In this time of sorrow, his family finds comfort in the knowledge that he loved the Lord and was looking forward to meeting Jesus. He is now in the presence of his Lord where there is no more pain or suffering. He will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.
The Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB.
