It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Gloria McGregor Tiltack (nee Crawford), who passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born in the quaint town of Larkhall, Scotland, on May 12, 1940, Gloria was the second of five girls born to the late George and Elizabeth Crawford. She was a shy but happy child who enjoyed the cinema, music, and dancing.
Gloria emigrated to Canada at the age of 17 with her family. The Crawford family arrived in London, Ontario, in June 1957, where they planted their roots, but their Scottish heritage remained a cherished part of their lives. Gloria enjoyed a variety of work experiences including Drug Trading, Northern Telecom, Woolco, and Rogers; she always mentioned how proud she was to have been offered every job she applied for. In 1968, while working at Northern Telecom, she met Hans, whom she was married to until his passing in 2016. Gloria retired from Rogers after 10+ years of service.
To know Gloria was to love her. Her storytelling was world-class, and her infectious laugh and distinct giggle could light up a room.
Known for her exceptional talent in knitting, Gloria’s creative spirit was a gift to all who received her handmade blankets, scarves, and other treasures. She will be remembered fondly for her specialty dishes; Her trifle was the main event at every Christmas celebration, and her mince and tatties and potato salad will linger in our memories. We will forever be replicating these in her honour.
Gloria enjoyed traveling, even going to Dubai and riding a camel at age 78. She travelled with family to Germany, Switzerland, the UK, Mexico, Cuba, and Florida, always embracing new experiences with curiosity.
She will be missed dearly by her loved ones, but we take comfort in knowing she has reunited with her husband of 47 years, Hans Tiltack (2016); her parents, George and Elizabeth Crawford (1992 and 2008); and her sister, Florence Beedall (2014).
Gloria leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth. She will be profoundly missed by her daughter Jennifer (Jon), and sons Colin (Debbie) and Kurt (Jenn).
Her beloved sisters Helen (John), Betty (Melvin) and Jean (Gary) will miss her tremendously. Their monthly sisters’ lunches won’t be the same without Gloria’s warm energy. Her dear friends Bridie and Margaret will also feel her absence deeply.
One of Gloria’s greatest joys was being a grandmother, a role she embraced wholeheartedly. Her grandchildren Tyler, Samantha, Adam (Talia), Cassandra (Yass), Ryan and Maddie, and great-grandchildren Layla, Theo, and Max will forever miss being called ‘duck,’ listening to her tell stories, and chatting for hours, usually over a rye and Diet Pepsi. All of her ducks and hens will miss her dearly.
She is survived by her many cousins, nieces, nephews, and their extended families.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 11, 2025, from 12:00 to 1:00 pm. at the Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 2001 Dundas St, London, Ontario. The funeral service will take place in the chapel of the funeral home, with interment to follow in the adjoining cemetery. A reception will immediately follow in the funeral home’s Reception Room. Relatives and friends are invited to come with any memories they wish to share.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all those who cared for Gloria during her time at Glendale Crossing. We also extend our appreciation to the doctors and nurses on the 7th floor at London University Hospital for their care and compassion.
For those who wish to honour Gloria’s memory with flowers, they are gratefully accepted. Alternatively, donations can be made directly to the Salvation Army, a charity close to Gloria’s heart. www.salvationarmy.ca Messages of condolences may be made to www.londoncremation.com
