It is with profound sadness that our family announces Gloria’s peaceful passing with family by her side at Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice on Wednesday June 19, 2024 in her 84th year.
Beloved wife and best friend for 45 years to Eric (Ike). Caring and loving mother of Ward Lax (Lorrie), Kevin Lax (the late Bobbi), and Cheryl Fulford (Mike Kelly).
Loving and doting Nanna to 16 beautiful grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and her forever missed 4 legged companions: Chippy & Nipper.
Sister of the late Bernice Bruce (the late John). Sister of the late Scott Robinson, and sister -in- law of Londa Robinson.
Half sister of Janice Close (the late John), sister-in-law of Julie Beckett (Bill), sister-in-law of Shirley Beckett (Bob).
Gloria will be deeply missed by her many nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours, and friends.
Our Queen of afghans and dishcloths has set her knitting needles and crochet hook down to rest for a final time.
Where her fingers have danced their last time across the ivories of her organ. Gloria was also a dedicated Christian to assisting with the Sunday Services at Canton United Church playing the organ and leading the Senior Choir and congregation in Song.
In the earlier years Gloria also assisted with the Junior Choir at Welcome United Church and enjoyed singing in the Senior Choir. She kept her bible close but The Lord even closer right up to her final breath.
Forever grateful for always tending to visitors or family whether she knew of their arrival or not her teapot or coffee pot would keep up to the chit chat or shenanigans while her homemade banana bread would be devoured up or in the earlier days chili would be loaded up for you to fill a belly and your soul.
Gloria always had to keep her arthritic hands moving by spoiling her loved ones with her homemade butter tarts, pumpkin, blueberry, lemon, and apple pies. Oh, how divine, they were the best. Your visit was not complete until you heard or how dare you leave without a “WHERE’S MY HUG?” and a “I LOVE YOU MORE!”
A Celebration of Life will be held at The Port Hope Lions Centre on Sunday November 17th, from 1 – 4 p.m.
