Obituary of Glenn Bernardi
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Glenn, who left us just days before his long-awaited and much anticipated 85th birthday. Glenn passed away on Friday, January 31, 2025, at the Sault Area Hospital. He was the devoted and loving husband of Louise Bernardi for 59 years. He was the most loving and supportive father to his daughter, Lisa Bernardi, who was the pride and joy of his life. He was also a cherished doggie Grandpa to Mannix. Glenn is predeceased by his parents, Lois and Elchy Bernardi, as well as his brothers Bobby (Darlene), Gary, and Roy (Norma). He is survived by his loving sisters, Lois Jaremko (late Gordie) and Gail. He was also a dear brother-in-law to John Slobodecki (Jean), Jerry Sobodecki (Jeanette), Eddie Slobodecki, the late Irene Horsefall (Bob) and the late Francis Slobodecki. A devoted and caring uncle, Glenn will be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews.
There are times in life when friends become family, and this was especially true with Brenda and the late Tony Scornaiencki and their children and grandchildren. Glenn’s memory will live on through the many cherished moments shared with Krista Morgenstern (Corey Gardi), Mark Scornaiencki, Paula Watts (Aaron), and his devoted goddaughter, Tricia Scornaiencki, who always looked out for him. He was a funny, generous, and kind Uncle Glenn to Hanna, Megan, Adam, Ashley, Nathan, William, Addison, and Jacob. He is now reunited, sharing stories, drinks, and laughs just like the old days with Tony.
Glenn, a Royal Canadian Navy Veteran, dedicated 35 years to the maintenance department at the Sault Area Hospital, where he was known for his hard work, humour, and willingness to help anyone in need. Glenn loved his job as a Supervisor of Maintenance and enjoyed the people whom he worked with. His kindness extended beyond his family and friends—he will also be greatly missed by his many neighbours on McCrea Street, where he was always willing to lend a hand (or a tool), share a story, or have a beer. Glenn never showed up anywhere empty-handed – whether it was wine, beer, or donuts, he always brought something to share.
Glenn was a passionate supporter of the Soo Greyhounds, having been a season ticket holder for 33 years. He and Louise could be seen wearing their Greyhound gear and cheering on their team at almost every game.
His kindness, generosity, and warmth will be deeply missed but forever remembered by those who had the honour of knowing him. His stories will be cherished and retold by those who had the privilege of hearing them—and there were many!
Friends and family are invited to visit at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Road, 705-945-7758) on Thursday, February 6, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ARCH. Glenn’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated and compassionate staff at Sault Area Hospital for providing him with dignified and respectful care over the past few months.
