Obituary of Glenn A. Hamilton
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Glenn Hamilton at the Charlotte County Hospital after a long battle with cancer, a beloved brother, uncle, friend, and quiet cornerstone of our family. Glenn passed away peacefully on December 21st, at the age of 70, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a life lived close to nature.
Glenn was a proud veteran, having served his country for over 25 years in the military. His dedication and commitment to service exemplified his strength and loyalty. He carried the discipline and resilience learned during his time in uniform into every aspect of his life.
Glenn had a deep passion for the outdoors. Whether it was casting into tranquil waters or tracking elk through Alberta’s breathtaking wilderness, he found his greatest joy immersed in the natural world. Black Bear Lodge, the family camp and land cherished for over a century, was his sanctuary, a place where memories were made and traditions were passed down. He was most at peace at his house on the lake, surrounded by the serenity that reflected his private and introspective spirit.
An avid sports fan, Glenn was loyal to his Toronto Blue Jays, often with a heavy dose of criticism. From the comfort of his couch, he passionately debated the team’s strategies, convinced he could outmaneuver the front office with his own ideas with a sip of Jamieson and a cigar. His fiery love for the game was matched only by the humour he brought to every conversation about it.
Glenn was especially proud of his family, and his bond with his nephews and their children held a special place in his heart. He shared a close connection with his nephew Jason MacMillan and Jason’s children: Cherie, Gordon, Hunter MacMillan and Aubree MacMillan. Glenn also cherished his nephew Nick Neate and Nick’s daughter Nova Neate. Whether it was sharing stories, passing along wisdom, or teaching them to appreciate the great outdoors, Glenn’s love and influence will remain a part of their lives forever.
A special bond was shared with his cousin Chris Hamilton, who joined Glenn on many fishing and hunting trips. These moments were often enriched by time spent with Chris’ wife, Christine, whose pickled carrots Glenn declared were unmatched. Glenn also cherished the time spent with Jessica(fondly called “Moose”), Dylan and Leah Bartlett, whose presence brought light and laughter to his life.
Though Glenn valued his privacy, his presence was a constant source of support and warmth to those who knew him. He had a quite way of showing his love, whether through sharing stories at the camp or teaching the next generation how to find joy in the simple pleasures of life.
Glenn is survived by his sister Norma Neate (Dave), nephews Jason MacMillan(Shaunalee) and Nick Neate (Angie), special uncle David Hitchings (Lise) and their children Diane, Mike, Brian and Rob and many cousins. He will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
We would like to say a special thank you to floor 1 Palliative Care nurses and staff who all went above their job description in the care that was given to Glenn. Also special thanks to Glenn’s neighbours, Dale and Elva, who looked after his place and Tiger the cat.
Rest in peace, Uncle Glenn. You’re forever in our hearts and always part of the land and legacy you loved so dearly.
