Gladys “Gladi” Lyall Obituary
Gladys Norma Lyall, lovingly known as “Gladi,” passed away on December 14, 2024, at North Island Hospital in Comox, British Columbia, after a brief illness. Born on September 26, 1940, in Middleton, Nova Scotia, to Marjorie and Harold Beardsley, Gladi lived a life of love, creativity, and generosity.
On May 9, 1960, she married her devoted husband, Robert “Bob” Lyall, sharing over 64 years of joy and affection. In 2010, in celebration of fifty magical years, they eloped to Las Vegas to renew their vows. Together, they built a life filled with warmth, laughter, and countless memories. Their enduring love was always evident to all who knew them.
Gladi’s hobbies included knitting, quilting, sewing, cooking, and baking—all acts of love. Her mantra, “Where there’s food, there’s love,” defined her care for others, whether crafting quilts or baking cookies, and always catering to dietary needs. She also loved animals, famously chickens as a favourite, and cherished catching up with friends over the latest soap operas, especially “Coronation Street.” Gladi was also a talented hairdresser, often styling the hair of close friends and family. She was famous not only for her generosity, but for her combination of wisdom and mischievous wit.
A pillar of her community, Gladi was a founding member of Glacier Grannies, a guild member at St. Michael & All Angels Chapel, a proud supporter of Teddies ‘n’ Toddlers Childcare Centre, a member of the Material Girls quilting group at the Comox Lion’s Den, and a provider of breast cancer pillows and bags.
Her generosity and humour will be remembered by her husband Bob; her children Tamara Laurel (Thomas) of Cobourg, ON, Trudy Suzanne of Brazil, and Todd Patrick (Holly) of Winnipeg, MB; her grandchildren Spencer Allmendinger with granddaughter-in-love Krista Gordon, Logan Allmendinger, and Alexa Lyall. She was always a devoted sister-in-law to Bob’s late brother Jack. She also leaves behind a community of friends who were touched by her generous spirit.
The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude for the compassionate care shown by Dr. O’Connor and Dr. Rudecki, the wonderful nursing and support team at North Island Hospital Comox, and additional appreciation to the imaging department at North Island Hospital in Campbell River.
There will be no service as requested by the family. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Comox Valley Healthcare Foundation at cvhealthcarefoundation.com.
