Obituary
It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Giuseppina Lagana on February 24, 2025, at Villa Colombo Homes for the Aged at the age of 80. Reunited with her beloved husband Giuseppe, loving mother to Carmelo (Josie), and Mauro (Ingrid), cherished Nonna to Marcus, Monica and Liam and dear sister of Vincenza, Pia, Bruno, Elena and Francesca.
Giuseppina loved her family with all her heart. Always putting their interests first, she was kind, generous, hard-working and entirely selfless. She came to Canada from Abruzzi, Italy in the 1960s, settling in Toronto where she met and fell in love with Giuseppe. Together, they worked hard to build a great life for their family, sharing countless happy memories in a home filled with love, laughter, and Giuseppina’s wonderful singing as she prepared amazing home-cooked Italian meals.
Unfortunately, at an all too early age of 67, she was diagnosed with dementia. As the disease progressed, she slowly lost her ability to look after herself. As time passed and Giuseppe was no longer able to manage as her caregiver, she moved into a nursing home so she could receive the 24-hour care she needed. She lived in the nursing home for the last seven years of her life and passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones.
Giuseppina will be greatly missed and held dear in the hearts of her many extended family members and friends. She will be lovingly remembered and never forgotten.
