Obituary of Gilbert Joseph DeCoste
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gilbert Joseph DeCoste, who passed away on April 24, 2025, at the Aberdeen Hospital.
Gilbert was born in Antigonish on October 2nd, 1950, and raised in Cape Jack, Nova Scotia. He was the son of the late Sylvester and Lillian (Melong) DeCoste.
Gilbert was a long-time employee of Michelin Tire from where he retired, an active member of Holy Name Roman Catholic Church where he was involved in the choir and sang in many other church choirs throughout Pictou County. He loved hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors. He enjoyed playing hockey, and was a huge Chicago Blackhawks fan. He also loved to cook for family and friends, and spend time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Marion, children Tracy (Mark), Chris (Crystal), granddaughter Hannah-Jane (Rob), grandson Gavin, step-grandson Hayden, and a great-grandson Sebastion, his siblings Francis (Theresa), Marie (Hank) Boucher, Tom (Peggy) DeCoste, Jacqueline (Junior) Fougere, as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, and his sisters Jean Pelrine and Shirley Pelrine.
Visitation will be held at Eagles Funeral Home on Monday, April 28th from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, April 29th at 11am from Holy Name Roman Catholic Church in Westville with Father Peter MacDonald presiding. A reception will follow in the church hall.
