Gerrit “Gerry” Rokus Verrips Obituary
Gerrit Rokus Verrips was born on Feburary 24, 1937. On February 16, in his 88th year, Gerry reached out, firmly grasped the hand of our Lord and Saviour and entered into eternal life.
His loving wife, Mary of 65 + years, his children Anne (Robin) Childs, Alice (Jeff) Belbeck, Marian (Frank) Vandenberg, Jack Verrips, Peggy Cook, Janet Matthews, and Aart (Annie) Verrips, their 28 grandchildren (Kandise, Krista, Alex, Katelyn, Jason, Tiffany, Jessica, Brittany, Alicia, Tim, Lydia, Julia, Mike, Olivia, Jake, Hannah, Steven, James, Marie, Christopher, David, Aaron, Valerie, Gabrielle, Grada, Gerrit, Seth, Marissa) along with spouses and over 30 great-grandchildren are saddened but joyful as Opa has peacefully joined the Lord in heaven.
Opa, as he was affectionately known, was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, and unwavering faith in God. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family and friends, whose lives were touched by him. Those who knew Gerry will remember him for his infectious smile and laughter, and his deep-rooted faith in Jesus.
The family is profoundly thankful to the exceptional staff on the fourth floor (Lakeview) at Shalom Manor. Opa loved the staff and they loved him!
Visitation will be held at ZION UNITED REFORMED CHURCH, 1238 Old Hwy. #8, Sheffield, on Wednesday, February 19 from 6-8 p.m. where a Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, February 20 at 1:00 pm. Family interment at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Copetown. In Lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Shalom Manor. Please sign the Tribute Wall.
