It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gerald “Big Jer” on Saturday, March 29, 2025 in his 89th year. Loving husband of over 37 years to Helen (neé Woods, formally McLaren), devoted father of Gerald (Dawn), and cherished Papa to Isabel and Ethan. He will be fondly remembered by his step-children; Fred (Nancy), Donna (predeceased) (Al), Gloria (Ivan), and Jim (Pauline) and their children; Freddie, Katie, Jimmy, Vicki, Tara, Adam, Alison, Jessie, and his sixteen great-grandkids. Jerry will be dearly missed by his siblings Binka (late Mike) and Olga (late Lenny). Predeceased by his first wife Victoria (1979), his brothers Gus and Cyril, and was met over the rainbow bridge by his beloved dog, Molly.
Jerry enjoyed a decades long career in sales with both Sears and Sears Roebuck (United States) working in various departments, retiring after 35 years of dedicated service.
Our sincere thanks to the staff at McNally House Hospice, Grimsby who helped make Jerry comfortable in his last days – your dedication and kindness were truly appreciated.
Visitation at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stop light north of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Thursday, April 3 from 5-8 p.m., with the Funeral Service to be held in the Chapel the following day on Friday, April 4 at 1 p.m. Entombment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to McNally House Hospice would be sincerely appreciated by the family. www.smithsfh.com
