George (Elmer) Wigelius
May 1, 1936 – January 9, 2025
It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of George (Elmer) Wigelius. He left us peacefully on January 9th, 2025, in his 89th year.
He was a man of immense humour and wisdom, cherishing every moment spent with loved ones.
Elmer worked for CN Rail for 35 years and was a proud member of the ACT. He was an avid gardener, fisherman, sports enthusiast and pianist.
He was always quick with a joke or snide remark, and he kept us on our toes. He will be greatly missed.
Elmer is survived by his wife of 64 years, Gloria (Marconato) Wigelius, and his children Robert (Sandi), Larry (Lois) and Tammy (Ron).
He was an amazing Poppa (or as he would say “PooPoo”) to his cherished grandchildren Justin (Jessica), Hunter, Derek (Sarah), Brittany (Pat), Andrew, Lawson. Tieler (Jill), Riley (Maddy), Tori (Logan).
He was also blessed to have great-grandchildren, Grayson, Cameron, Madison and Asher.
He also loved all his “grand puppies” and always had the best days when they would visit him.
Dementia had taken some of him from us, but we are forever grateful he knew his family to the end. He would light up with every visit, phone call and FaceTime.
There are no words to express our appreciation for the staff at Eastholme in Powassan for their excellent care of Elmer for the last two years. They went above and beyond on a daily basis to ensure he received the best care. To say thank you is just not enough, so we ask for donations in Elmer’s memory to be made to Eastholme as a thank you for all they have done!
Family and friends can join us for a celebration of Elmer’s life and legacy on Saturday, January 18th, 2025, at Martyn Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 12 noon until the Memorial Service in the Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 pm. A luncheon will follow, catered by Orchard’s.
