George William Ross (1940 – 2025)
It is with huge sadness that we pay homage to George, deeply missed by his family and many colleagues and friends in Boston and elsewhere in the United States, in Montreal, Ottawa and Orford, and in Europe. His work as a expert on Europe, first the politics of the French Left and then the European Union, was incubated by the community at the Center for European Studies, Harvard University and widely spread by publication and discussion. He was a professor of Sociology and Political Science at Brandeis University until he retired to Montreal, where he held the Chaire Jean-Monnet ad personam at the Université of Montréal for many years. George’s life was well lived, with countless accomplishments that have touched so many generations of students, scholars, colleagues and friends.
He is mourned by Jane and Bridget Jenson, his cousins Judy, Barbara and Donald, his brother-in-law Alan Moore and family, and many friends.
The family will receive condolences Monday April 14th 2025 from 2 pm to 3 pm at the Urgel Bourgie Funeral Complex, 3955 Chemin de la Côte-de-Liesse in St-Laurent. Eulogies will follow starting at 3 pm.
Please direct any contributions in his name to the Cedars Cancer Foundation or Orford Musique.
