George Slauenwhite Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of George Slauenwhite announce his passing on Wednesday February 19, 2025 at the age of 87.
George was predeceased in 2022 by his devoted wife of 62 years, Erma nee Brooks.
George will be lovingly remembered by his children Diane (Bert), Brenda (Mike), Ron (Randa); grandchildren, Jason (Trish), Amanda (Don), Jeremey (Glyness) and great grandchildren Ashton, Braydon, Jocelyn and Devin, Brothers Doug, Jim (Connie).
George was predeceased by his parents John and Susan; siblings John, Linda, Gloria, June and Joan.
George was born in Sackville, Nova Scotia November 5, 1937. At the age of 18 George joined the Canadian Armed Forces and 4 years later married the love of his life, Erma. During his military career he served from the West Coast to the East Coast of Canada as well as Minnesota and Washington in the U.S. He was honorably released from service after 30 years at Royal Canadian Air Force Base Penhold, Alberta. A military career was an exciting time for George and the family. Every few years packing up the 3 kids and the family pets and hitting the open road in a wood panel station wagon. Stopping along the roadside to enjoy a picnic lunch and spectacular scenery. Postings meant new friends for everyone and many friendships which endured the test of time. After retirement from the military George began a second career in the oilfield working for Otis Engineering for the next 17 years. He then continued his employment at Bowden Institution as well as the RCMP Detachment in Red Deer with the Corps of Commissionaires.
George was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion, most recently Innisfail branch. He loved many sporting activities from scuba diving to skeet shooting, bowling and his favourite of all golfing at Lacombe Golf & Country Club with many of his good friends. As the son of a carpenter it was natural that woodworking would be his passion project. He spent many hours cutting out Christmas decorations and furniture for family. He then turned the projects over to Erma and she would put her skills to use and paint all the beautiful items. George had a competitive spirit and excelled at anything he put his mind to. Of greatest importance to George was spending time his family and many a summer of camping and traveling ensued and winters spent snowmobiling with huge bonfires and cookouts.
A grateful thank you to all the staff at RoseHaven in Camrose for Dad’s excellent care these past 2 years.
